The Yahn Group, Inc. is a multifaceted construction company providing Excavation services, Site Preparation, Site Utility construction services. We also offer Management Consulting services that include, but are not limited to–Project Management, Project Oversight, Project Scheduling and Quality Assurance and plan to offer Architectural/Engineering Design Services for small to medium sized projects as well as Concrete Crushing and Recycling services in the future.  .We are proud of our three generations of outstanding construction work in the U.S. and abroad.

OUR HISTORY

In 1921 Arthur Ernest Yahn, who had arrived in the US from Germany in 1903, founded the Yahn Construction Company in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Arthur grew his company into a thriving small business. When he retired in 1968, his son, Arthur Jr., known as Autsie, took over the helm.

Quickly establishing a strong standing as a fair and highly competent contractor, Yahn Construction continued to grow in size and reputation in western Massachusetts. Steven, Autsie’s young son, began working with his grandfather and his father, falling in love with construction industry when very young. He worked at the family business in many different positions through high school and during summer breaks from college, learning everything he could about construction, its equipment and management, both from inside the company and from his college engineering and business classes. In 1981, Steven took over the company from his father sixty years and three generations after its inception.

In 1997, Steven closed the Yahn Construction Company when his young son, Oliver, was seriously injured in a fall from an electrical tower. After Oliver recovered, Steven moved with his family to pursue new opportunities in the western United States. He worked for various construction companies, both large and small, in Colorado, New Mexico, Washington, Hawaii and Oregon, gaining expertise in new construction, business and management techniques before returning to Massachusetts in 2002. After a few short months working with a paving company, Steven was offered a new and exciting position building the Kabul to Kandahar (KK) Road in Afghanistan.

THE YAHN GROUP, INC. is a corporation established on August 31, 2011 in Springfield, Massachusetts, with their new international headquarters in Houston, Texas, where they incorporated on June 30, 2014. The owners, Barbara J. and Steven A. Yahn have over 76 years of construction experience between them.

Barbara, the 51% owner of the company, began her career in construction in 1978. Barbara has worked for Electrical Contractors, System Contractors, Paving Contractors, General Contractors, and Owners, in the areas of Management, Administration, Accounting, Estimating, Project Scheduling, Project Management and Project Controls.

Steven, 49% owner of the company, comes from the New England, family-owned business, A.E. Yahn & Sons, who specialized in Excavation and Asphalt Paving. He worked for the company that his grandfather started in 1921 and his father ran for many decades. In1994, Steve took over the day-to-day operations of the company but closed the doors of the firm three years later after his son experienced a serious injury. He has since worked for various Excavation, Paving, General Contracting and Quality Oversight firms around the United States and in Afghanistan.

Barbara and Steve have been working for Contractors in Afghanistan since 2004 and 2002 respectively. Since they began operating The Yahn Group, Inc. in 2012, they have provided Architectural/Engineering Design Services and Project Quality oversight and Construction for numerous projects, including management of the construction of 168 Containerized Housing Units (CHUs), design, construction and installation of Precast Concrete Structures (Guard Booths and Guard Towers) to the US Embassy Kabul Facilities and Diplomatic Security Operations.
